Mission Statement:
To prevent fires and/or reduce injury, loss of life and property damage due to fire.Vision:
To have the necessary infrastructure in place to protect our Firefighters, EMS workers, Police Officers and Residents, and to ensure a fire safe community through public education and inspections.Duties:
Under the leadership of the Fire Official the bureau of fire safety is responsible for the following:
Ensure all businesses are inspected and comply with the NJ uniform fire code
Issue permits and certificates of inspection
Investigate all complaints and fires within the borough
Prepare and conduct fire prevention presentations to our schools, civic organizations and residents
Conduct free home fire inspections
Conduct the annual fire prevention poster contest
Coordinate the annual borough fire works display
Assist in staffing daytime emergency medical services

Public Safety Education Offerings:
The East Rutherford Bureau of fire safety provides several different fire safety education programs, brochures and home inspections. We cover common fire hazards, fire evacuation, proper use of fire extinguishers as well as installation and maintenance of smoke detectors.
