The Department of Public Works is constantly evaluating, repairing, and replacing roads, street signs, traffic signs, and sidewalks around the borough. We currently maintain over 20 miles of roadway, more than 200,000 feet of sidewalks, and street and traffic signs exceeding 5,000. Residents and visitors of the borough are encouraged to contact the Department of Public Works with any areas they feel may cause a potential walking or driving hazard. The situation will then be evaluated by one of our professionals and resolved as soon as possible.
Repairs & Resurfacing...
● In a cooperative effort with members of Boy Scout Troop 51, the Department of Public Works recently painted corner sidewalk ramps in compliance with the American Disabilities Act. The project allows for identification of handicap accessibility to sidewalks and provides a non-slip service for pedestrians at corners. The Public Works Department was pleased to work with members of Troop 51, who have provided their community a great service.
● The Borough is currently in the process of developing a Roads Program in order to repair and resurface streets that need the most attention.
Don't Be Left In The Dark...
A survey of all street lights within the Borough was recently conducted. Streetlights that do not operate properly waste energy and pose a hazard during night time hours. Although we are aggressively seeking to correct these problems, we encourage anyone noticing a problem with a streetlight to report it to the Department of Public Works. When reporting a malfunctioning light, please include its location and your concern regarding it. These problems will be evaluated and actions will be taken in a timely fashion.
