Traffic Division

About Us

The unique location of East Rutherford with our close proximity to New York City and having 4 major state highways including, Route 3, Route 17, Route 120 and the New Jersey Turnpike, as well as major sports and entertainment venues, the Meadowlands Sports Complex and American Dream Meadowlands within our jurisdiction makes traffic a concern and traffic safety one of our highest priorities.

Currently staffed by 3 officers, the Traffic Division oversees the Motor Unit, School Crossing Guards and Class 1 and Class 2 Special Law Enforcement Officers and fleet maintenance program.

The Traffic Division is also responsible for administering the Resident Parking Permit program, Handicap Parking Spot requests, conducting Traffic Studies, review traffic related Borough Ordinances and curb and parking spot painting and markings.

The Traffic Division also oversees our specialized Motor Unit. The East Rutherford Police Department Motor Unit consists of 3 fully equipped motorcycles, 4 motor officers, 2 assigned to the Traffic Division and 2 assigned to the Patrol Division. Motor officers conduct traffic enforcement, specialized escorts as well as enhance our patrol and response capabilities in times of heavy traffic within portions of the borough. Officers assigned to our motor unit must successfully pass and recertify annually the rigorous "Maryland State Police Basic Police Motorcycle Operators Course". Our Motor Unit is staffed with highly trained and skilled motor officers, including a certified master instructor who teaches motorcycle operations at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute several times a year.
