Office of Emergency Management

(OEM)

Our Mission

The Mission of the East Rutherford Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is to provide for the safety and well-being of the Borough's residents and visitors, while also providing for protective measures to ensure minimal loss and damage to public and private property, as well as the overall environment.

It is with this in mind that our OEM professionals plan for and respond to emergencies, including instances of severe weather, natural disasters, technological incidents, national security emergencies, and other emergency situations.

East Rutherford is a unique community, as its residential population is less than 10,000 but can fluctuate significantly due to the Borough’s large commercial base, commuter arteries, and the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The complexity of the community provides interesting challenges to emergency responders. It is with this in mind that our professionals work cooperatively with Municipal, County, State and Federal authorities to identify and plan for emergency situations. Through the use of hazard identification and analysis, emergency planning meetings, training classes and exercises, and unified emergency response, the East Rutherford OEM strives to deliver solid emergency preparedness, in an effort to ensure life safety and provide provisions to reduce property loss and damage to the environment.
