Stormwater Management
On January 5, 2004, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection adopted significant changes to the rules governing stormwater management in New Jersey. These new rules created the Municipal Stormwater Regulation Program, which requires municipalities to apply for and obtain a permit for stormwater discharges from their municipal separate storm sewer systems, Under the terms of the permit, every municipality in New Jersey was required to develop a plan to implement various strategies to reduce the amount of pollutants entering our storm sewer (drainage) systems.
