Major Discipline
In June of 2021 the New Jersey Attorney General issued Law Enforcement Directive 2021-6 and the Bergen County Prosecutor issued Law Enforcement Directive 2021-3 requiring public disclosure of identities of officers who commit major disciplinary violations for the period of January 1 through December 31.
Major disciplinary violations can include conduct involving excessive force against members of the public, racially derogatory comments, driving while intoxicated, domestic violence, theft, filing false police reports, and other conduct that results in criminal charges against the officer. Major discipline violations may result in the suspension of six days or greater, demotion, or termination.
