GOAL
The goal of the East Rutherford Police Department’s Recruitment Plan is to attract qualified individuals to pursue a career with the East Rutherford Police Department in achieving overall and gender composition of the department in comparison to the service population of the Borough of East Rutherford. The department will make a good faith effort to meet specific goals for recruiting a diverse workforce.
GENERAL
The East Rutherford Police Department is a New Jersey Civil Service Commission (CSC) jurisdiction and must adhere to New Jersey State Statutes and Administrative Code in its recruitment and selection process. Applicants must be a bona fide resident of East Rutherford at the time of the closing date of the New Jersey Department of Personnel Law Enforcement Test. Once East Rutherford residents have been exhausted from the Civil Service Certification List, Bergen County residents are then provided with preference. If the Bergen County list is exhausted, applications will be open to residents of the State of New Jersey. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The East Rutherford Police Department duties and responsibilities include the enforcement of State, County, local laws, and ordinances, maintain order, crime suppression, crime prevention, community outreach programs, crash investigations, and traffic control and direction. The departments organizational structure consists of Administration, Uniformed Patrol, Investigations, and Traffic.
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be considered for employment in an entry-level law enforcement position with the East Rutherford Police Department, applicants who meet the eligibility requirements must pass a written exam called the Law Enforcement Examination (LEE). All applications to take the exam must be completed and submitted on the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s website between March 1, 2024 and April 1, 2024.
